Top 10 result for Frikadelli Racing at the Michelin Le Mans Cup in Monza

03.07.2022

For the first time this season, the Frikadelli Racing Team made it into the top 10 of the overall classification in the Michelin Le Mans Cup. Klaus Abbelen and Felipe Laser delivered a flawless performance with the #30 Ligier JS P320 and worked their way up from 20th on the grid to tenth place in the 110-minute race.

“I am very happy and satisfied with the weekend. We really took a huge step forward here in Monza and developed our car in absolutely the right direction as a team. Both Felipe and I had good pace and we were able to successfully stay out of the many turbulences on the track. All in all, that contributed to this strong result,” said team boss Klaus Abbelen.

Despite the high outside temperatures, the Frikadelli Racing Team in Monza kept a cool head right from the start. While many opponents stumbled in the early stages and were involved in incidents, Klaus Abbelen managed to move the #30 Ligier JS P320 around the traditional 5.793 km long Italian circuit without a scratch. By the time the driver changed, he had already worked his way up from 20th on the grid to 15th.

“It was motley and hectic right from the start. Overall, the race was marked by many accidents, which also led to two safety car phases and a large number of full course yellow phases. However, we got through without any problems, which certainly has something to do with the fact that we initially approached the matter a little more passively,” Abbelen continued.

In the second half of the race, Felipe Laser took over the cockpit of the LMP3 vehicle, who successfully continued the race to catch up and brought the #30 Ligier JS P320 across the finish line in tenth place. “After we've often lacked that last bit of luck in the Michelin Le Mans Cup this season, we were finally able to reap the rewards for our work today. Klaus in particular has increased his pace significantly compared to the last races, as he had planned. I'm really happy that the driver coaching is paying off. We can build on this performance at the remaining two rounds of the Michelin Le Mans Cup in Spa-Francorchamps and Portimao and will continue to work on vehicle and driver performance here,” said Laser.

Next stop: 6h race of the Nürburgring Endurance Series

Already next weekend Frikadelli Racing will continue on the Nordschleife. Klaus Abbelen, "Jules" and Felipe Laser will share the cockpit of the #111 Porsche 992 GT3 Cup at the 6-hour race of the Nürburgring Endurance Series. The driver trio is aiming for another podium place in the AM classification of the Porsche Endurance Trophy.

“We finished second in the last NLS race and were able to record our best result of the season on the Nordschleife. Our goal is to build on this performance in the 6h race,” said Abbelen.
