First overall victory for Frikadelli Racing in the Prototype Cup Germany

Klaus Abbelen and Felipe Laser have achieved their first win of the season with the #30 Ligier JS P320. The driver duo kept a cool head despite the enormous heat at the Hockenheimring and triumphed in the third race on Sunday. Frikadelli Racing finished the previous two races of the weekend in fourth and sixth place overall.
‘We are obviously delighted with our first overall victory in the Prototype Cup Germany. Although we started from the back of the field, the course of the race played into our hands with the red flag and Felipe was able to go on the attack at the end. Many thanks to him and to the whole team. Everything came together perfectly today! Now we are looking forward to our home race at the Nürburgring next weekend. We will give everything to achieve another podium result,’ beamed Team Principal Klaus Abbelen.
Abbelen started the first race at the Hockenheimring on Saturday from seventh position and was able to improve to sixth place during his stint. After the driver change, Laser once again gave his all and brought the #30 Ligier JS P320 up to fourth place in the overall standings. In the battle for the podium, the man from Leipzig was only beaten by a wafer-thin margin in the end.
Laser once again proved his class in the second race on Sunday morning, taking the lead on the second lap of the race after starting from fourth on the grid.He successfully defended the lead until the driver changeover.However, the #30 Ligier JS P320 lost a few positions again after the stop due to the longer standing time required by the regulations compared to the competition. Abbelen finally finished the race in sixth position overall after a consistent and faultless stint.
However, Frikadelli Racing experienced the highlight of the weekend on Sunday afternoon.
Abbelen and Laser fought their way from last place on the grid to the front in the race.In the meantime, the race was interrupted by a red flag after an accident. The pit stop window opened shortly after the restart.
‘I'm speechless, happy and simply delighted.It went really well today.Klaus has continuously improved over the entire race weekend.The red flag played into our hands.In the final phase, I gave everything I had to overtake the leader. The victory is something very special for everyone in the team,’ said Laser.
Frikadelli Racing will continue next weekend (16-18 August 2024) with the Prototype Cup Germany at the Nürburgring.
